Free-filament wire strain gages (up to 1050°C)
are used for components that are subjected to extremely high operating temperatures. Thanks to their low mass they are particularly suited for applications where high vibrational loads occur.
Typical fields of application are:
- turbochargers
- jet engines
- gas turbines in the power plant sector
The strain gages consist of a micro wire mesh of a diameter of a few micrometers. This mesh is embedded into a ceramic layer in a multistage process, which is applied onto the surface of the object to be measured. The connecting wires are also led to the measuring amplifier in a ceramic layer.
Since these are rotating parts, the measurement signal must be transmitted to the outside by using telemetric devices that are mounted on cold surfaces.
